Canada's Automotive Journalists Make the Accord Number One
After taking home the award for Best Large Car in the Automobile Journalist Association of Canada's annual Car of the Year program in January, beating the refreshed Mazda6 and thoroughly redesigned Toyota Camry in the process, the all-new Honda Accord has now been named 2018 Canadian Car of the Year.
"We're thrilled to declare the Honda Accord to be the Canadian Car of the Year for 2018, and the Chrysler Pacifica to be the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year," said AJAC President Mark Richardson. "They've both been decided through the most vigorous system of testing possible by AJAC's automotive professionals. They're both deserving of being considered the very best vehicles you can buy in 2018."
Accord Beats Seven Other Finalists to Claim Top Spot
The redesigned Accord had its share of challengers, including seven additional AJAC finalists that were announced last month.
"We're honoured and humbled to receive this recognition from a group of respected automotive journalists in Canada," said Jean Marc Leclerc, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Honda Canada. "We're both proud and thankful for all of our associates who supported the production and development of this vehicle and for our passionate customers who have supported the Accord for the past forty years."
To qualify for e ntry into AJAC's annual Canadian Car of the Year program a vehicle must be entirely new or significantly updated. Of note, the Accord was not only up against the challengers mentioned above, but also other offerings that didn't make the finalists cut in December.
Sleek New Styling Combined with Efficient yet Powerful Performance
The 2018 Honda Accord Sedan represents a clean sheet redesign resulting in a dramatic styling departure that's received praise from auto industry professionals and customers alike. While sleeker and sportier looking, the new car is more refined inside with impressive electronic interfaces and high quality materials, while interior roominess is increased front to back thanks to a 55-mm longer wheelbase.
New 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engines provide 192 and 252 horsepower apiece, while six-speed manual, continuously variable, and all-new 10-speed automatic transmissions provide sporty performance and thrifty fuel economy of up to 7.2 L/100km combined city/highway.
Safety Comes First at Honda
All Accords come standard with a bevy of luxury and convenience features too, while the list of standard safety equipment includes LED headlights with automatic high beams, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, a multi-angle backup camera with dynamic guidelines, traffic sign recognition, a driver attention monitor, hill start assist, tire pressure monitoring, front knee airbags, the HondaLink Assist automatic emergency response system, and more.
